It was amazing to watch her compete through injury and extreme heat and come out as the champion. This was her first ATP victory and the first time a Canadian has one this tournament, which is often referred to as the 5th Major. Did I mention she’s only 18 years old?
Last week I noticed an article about her comeback from injury that I have posted on my website. One of the treatments she has had done recently is platelet rich plasma injections (PRP). This is a therapeutic injection that stimulates the regeneration of damaged tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissues. It’s done by taking a sample of blood from the patient and spinning it in a special syringe within a special centrifuge to concentrate the patient’s own platelets. This PRP solution is then injected into the damaged tissue to promote more rapid healing. PRP has applications for acute injuries and chronic or long term injuries.
I’ve been using PRP a lot more in my office with patients this past 6-12 months and I’ve been very happy with the results. PRP can be used with prolotherapy, physiotherapy, massage therapy, chiropractic care, and other physical therapy techniques. Please check out this article on Bianca’s journey and check out other information about PRP. If you have any questions about the use of PRP or other regenerative injection therapies for your health concerns feel free to contact me at the office.
