“As a Naturopathic Physician, I am committed to the principles of naturopathic medicine and the oath I took upon graduation. My goal is to build a relationship with each patient based on trust, integrity, and honesty. I am dedicated to acting in your best interest, whether that means providing treatment myself or guiding you to the right referral. Your health, your recovery, and your long-term well-being are always at the heart of what I do.” – Dr. Brent Barlow
Specific Interests
Dr. Barlow focused on physical medicine, pain management, and functional medicine as areas of special interest during naturopathic medical school. He did extra training and courses in prolotherapy, neural therapy, Bowen therapy, IV therapies, and chelation therapy in order to provide the best level of care to patients who could benefit from these treatments.
Education
Dr. Barlow earned his Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine from the Boucher Institute of Naturopathic Medicine (BINM) in New Westminster, BC, graduating in 2009 as co-valedictorian of his class.
BINM is recognized as the only naturopathic medical school in Western Canada, known for its innovative curriculum and emphasis on physical medicine techniques. During his time there, Dr. Barlow served on multiple committees and was elected class clinic representative, demonstrating leadership and dedication to his peers and profession.
He also holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration with a minor in Geography from Wilfrid Laurier University, where he balanced academics with his passion for athletics as a varsity football player.
A Life Shaped by Athletics & Wellness
Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Dr. Barlow grew up in a family that valued both hard work and sportsmanship. He excelled athletically, playing football, hockey, baseball, badminton, golf, and touch football throughout high school. His efforts earned him the title of Athlete of the Year in 1997 at Barton Secondary School. He went on to play three seasons of varsity football for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks, where he developed a deep interest in athletic performance and injury prevention.
After graduating from Wilfrid Laurier, Dr. Barlow moved west to Invermere, BC, working at Panorama Mountain Village in the ski industry — and it was there that he met his future wife.
It was during these years that Dr. Barlow’s passion for health and longevity crystalized. He wanted to push the limits of athletic performance without sacrificing long-term health. Exploring nutrition courses led him to discover naturopathic medicine. After shadowing several naturopathic doctors and seeing firsthand the results they achieved with patients, he knew this was his calling.
He returned to school to complete the prerequisites, was accepted into his top choice at BINM in 2005, and has been serving patients with dedication and heart ever since.
Today
Dr. Barlow is proud to be a trusted naturopathic physician in Kelowna, helping patients reduce pain, optimize performance, and achieve balance through a blend of regenerative therapies and holistic care. His background in sports, combined with his advanced medical training, allows him to connect deeply with both athletes and everyday patients who want to live life at their best.
