Detoxification is a vital part of all life systems. You can live for weeks without food and days without water but how long and well can you live without removing toxins from your system? How many hours can you go without making a trip to the washroom? How many minutes can you make it without exhaling the carbon dioxide building up in your body? Thinking about these questions helps to highlight the importance of detoxification.
Detoxification takes place on a few different levels in the body. The primary and larger detoxification organs of the body are the liver, lungs, GI tract, skin, and kidneys. These organs need to healthy in order for optimal detoxification to take place. However, due to the modern lifestyle these organs often become overwhelmed and unable to function at an elite level. This impairs detoxification processes and leads to the deposition of toxins in the body.
The secondary and smaller detoxification organs of the body are the mucus membranes, salivary glands, and other glands of the body. When the primary detoxifying organs are not functioning optimally there will be back up of toxins in the secondary organs. This shows the link between toxic build up and symptoms in the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
The smallest organs of detoxification live in the intracellular environment. At this microscopic level, massive amounts of metabolic waste are produced every second. When the cells of the body are unable to process and remove their waste properly the waste products build up in the system. Many toxins will be stored in fat cells and in the extracellular matrix (connective tissue) located in between the cells. This shows the link between detoxification and weight management issues.
A proper detoxification should be much more precise than simply using herbal laxatives to induce bowel movements and dietary restriction to decrease metabolic waste. The Detoxification Program is designed to address toxicity at all levels in the body and support all of the organs of detoxification. The organ systems at all levels of the body will be assessed and the weakened organ systems of the body will be supported in order to promote efficient and effective detoxification.
